Expressing oneself through music, singing and dancing is at the heart of the Basque & Gascon cultures. As a result, throughout the Summer the cultural agenda is packed with on-going classical music and choral concerts, folk dances and street dance parties. In the late Summer and early Fall the pros take over:

Film Festival aficionados

The highest profile event  is the San Sebastian International Film festival,  3rd largest of its kind in Europe after Cannes and Venice. 9 days in the 2nd half of September with wonderful weather and without the Summer crowds. You can easy hop back and forth to the festival from a home base on the French side should you wish a less urban atmosphere or you can stay at a rental apartment in buzzing San Sebastian in the heart of the action. Tickets will be secured for you mixed with a blend of San Sebastian gastronomy and art de vivre delivered by our local partner. Late September Biarritz claims its spot in the limelight with its renowned Latin-American movie and cultures festival, THE worldwide reference for Latin American cinema. In October Saint Jean de Luz takes over with its International Movie Festival for Young Directors.

Classical Music

Look for a month of classical music starting late August with the combined Musique en Côte Basque Festival and the Académie Maurice Ravel event. An excellent line up of international artists congregates on the coast and performs in historic buildings in various towns and villages. This is happening on the tail end of the Quincena Musical in nearby San Sebastian, the oldest classical music festival in Spain, where prestigious names perform.

Voice lovers

In October, celebrate your art form at the International Choral festival in St Jean de Luz.

Aim for a July stay easily hopping between San Sebastian, Biarritz and St Jean de Luz from your strategically located home base.

Dance lovers

Plan a September stay to enjoy Le Temps d’Aimer International Dance festival that gathers established dance troupes from Southern European, African and Latin American countries.
