Linguistic stays for School Groups in Biarritz

Biarritz surf

North American school groups enjoy a meaningful immersion experience thanks to home stays with local host families, French classes in the morning taught by various teachers,  sports and cultural activities in the afternoon all conducted in French.  The most popular activity choice is by far surfing lessons delivered in French, right in the town where surfing first started in Europe in the 50’s.  The overall program delivered by BMA, our linguistic school partner in Biarritz, showcases the strengths of this beautiful region and makes life in French fun and real for students. From an immersion benefit perspective, the stay in a host family delivers a huge linguistic advantage over the traditional school group travel approach of staying in hotels or universities All levels of French are welcomed.

About Biarritz

Located on the Basque coast, Biarritz is blessed with spectacular Atlantic surfs, at the foothills of the Pyrénées mountains, 30 minutes north of the Spanish border ( San Sebastian is 30 minutes away, and Bordeaux 1h45min away). The love of Napoleon III`s wife for the fishing village led her husband  to build her a small palace on the beach.  Subsequently,  Biarritz grew into an international destination for European monarchs, bourgeois and intelligentsia  to vacation  from the late 1800 until the start of the 2nd world war.  Today, the town’s architectural  heritage is rich and keeps on attracting generations of families year after year. It is home to the 2nd oldest golf course on continental Europe and has established itself in the 60s as the European capital of surfing. The mix of prestigious history, beautiful ocean setting, access to great outdoors, strong cultural traditions, proximity to Spain, and surfing culture have made the town a highly desirable destination to enjoy wonderful art-de-vivre.  Its year round population remains small with less than 30,000 inhabitants which makes it a comfortable size of town to get around by foot ( there is also a public bus transportation system that expands in the Summer months).  Biarritz is surrounded by other attractive coastal towns such as Bayonne and St Jean de Luz and the lush interior of the Basque country side is only a 15 minute drive away.
